Continuing his UK tour in line with the release of his newest album, Newton Faulkner comes to Glasgow’s ABC tonight.

Despite being famed for his dreadlocks, his beard and having the middle name Battenberg, Faulkner is probably best known for playing a besmirching array of laid-back, warming folk rock in a distinctive nail-stripping, guitar-slapping style. Debut album Hand Built By Robots topped the UK album chart in 2007 and went on to be certified double-platinum, whilst second, more sombre album Rebuilt By Humans charted at number 3.

Faulkner reclaimed the top spot with July’s Write It On Your Skin, with which this latest tour ties in. Skin is a sensationally upbeat album, warm acoustic slapping and glowing optimism playing merry over 60 minutes. The hazy lead single Clouds combines harmonies and dramatic orchestral backing with hugely singable choruses and tight-snapping breaks.

Faulkner’s date in Glasgow tomorrow night at the ABC is the second night of the tour, followed by dates across England and Ireland, culminating in a two-night takeover of Shepherd’s Bush Empire.
